ATHENS, Ala. (WHNT) — A 15-year-old male was injured after being shot by an Athens police officer on Saturday.
According to Athens Police Chief Anthony Pressnell, officers responded to a home on Elles Drive after receiving a call about the teen acting out of control and threatening family members with weapons around 2:15 p.m.
Upon arrival, the 15-year-old was armed with guns and knives. Pressnell said that the teen went to different rooms in the house and threw knives at the officers.
Pressnell tells News 19 that when the teen pointed a rifle at officers, an officer shot one round and hit the teen.
Officers administered first aid until Athens Fire and Athens EMS arrived on the scene. According to Pressnell, the teen is receiving medical treatment.
The investigation remains ongoing at this time.
