The day after Chicago opened the NFL’s 2024 preseason schedule with a 21-17 victory over the Houston Texans on Thursday night in the annual Hall of Fame game, the Bears added to their secondary. When Chicago returns to practice on Saturday, cornerback Ro Torrence will be with the team after signing on Friday.
A Bessemer City and Auburn alumnus, Torrence joined the Seattle Seahawks as a rookie free agent from Arizona State on May 3. The Seahawks released Torrence on June 25.
Torrence intercepted four passes and caught five touchdown passes in 2018 for the most recent Bessemer City High School team to win a game in the AHSAA football playoffs.
From the Purple Tigers, Torrence went to the Blue Dragons of Hutchinson Community College for two seasons. In 2020, he was the NJCAA Defensive Player of the Year for the JUCO national-championship team.
Torrence returned to his home state for 2021, when he played at Auburn. In 10 regular-season games, Torrence registered one tackle. But in the Tigers’ 17-13 loss to Houston in the Birmingham Bowl, Torrence made four tackles, broke up a pass and forced a fumble.
Torrence transferred to Arizona State during spring practice in 2022 and played two seasons with the Sun Devils.
