City of Huntsville approves $7.1 billion, nine-acre urban park

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – Last week, the Huntsville City Council approved a multi-million dollar construction contract to build a new urban park in South Huntsville.

The $7.1 million project, Hays Farm Central Park, will feature walking paths, connectivity to the greenway, LED lighting and a fitness court in conjunction with Arts Huntsville.

The park will also have a gazebo, windmill, lagoon and waterfall, pavilion and restrooms.

“It is exciting to see this project come to fruition,” said Jennie Robinson, District 3 Council Member. “This park is destined to become a favorite destination as a central gathering place for south Huntsville residents.”

The park will be located on the west side of Haysland Road, across from Grissom High School. It will also be accessible through a tunnel on the other side of the road, where the new Hayes Farm Sports Park is nearing completion.

The City signed the construction contract with Bailey-Harris Construction Company, and the construction is set to take about 14 months, with the park opening in the fall of 2025.
