How Auburn veteran TE Luke Deal is juggling fall camp and becoming a dad ‘any day now’

Inside Auburn tight end Luke Deal’s home is a nursery that’s ready to welcome he and his wife’s first child.

While Deal was the guy behind the paint roller that painted the room’s walls, the sixth-year tight end didn’t do much else, he admits.

“You’re kinda exposing me because I didn’t do much. I told you, my wife plans everything so she had it done before I could even do it,” Deal told reporters Friday afternoon. “She kinda put together everything else. It’s nice and organized. If you look at it, you’ll know that I didn’t put it up. I didn’t put it together. It looks really good.”

Deal is expecting the nursery to be put to use “any day now” as his wife Ansley’s Aug. 15 due date quickly approaches.

“I’m new to this whole thing, but everyone says it could happen any day. So we’re excited about it,” Deal said.

And considering Auburn’s fall camp just got underway this week, Deal has been spending a lot of time at the facility and away from home as he preps for his sixth season with the Tigers.

But worry not, his wife has a plan in place should baby time sneak up on them.

“She’s got everyone’s numbers so they can get ahold of me,” Deal said. “I trust pretty much everybody in this building to get ahold of me.”

The couple, which married in the spring of 2022 after a proposal in Auburn’s Jordan-Hare Stadium, is expecting a son — Christopher James.

“My wife and I, we’re just kinda taking it day by day, loving life, being grateful for the things we have right now and it’s going to be a big time here in a couple of days, couple of weeks, whatever it may be,” Deal said. “Hopefully we’ll be as ready as we can be.”
