Authorities are investigating after human remains were discovered Friday afternoon in a wooded area of Mobile County.
The remains, found in Mount Vernon, according to a Mobile County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman, were found off of E. Coy Smith Highway and Shepard House Road, WKRG reported.
The spokeswoman told AL.com that while deputies with the office’s crime scene unit are assisting Mount Vernon police, the sheriff’s office is not handling the entire investigation, so she did not know whether the remains are tied to an ongoing case.
A woman who answered the phone at the Mount Vernon Police Department said the agency was not answering any questions about the investigation early Friday evening.
