JD Davison spent most of his 2023-24 season with the Maine Celtics of the NBA Gatorade League and, as a two-way player, wasn’t eligible to play for the Boston Celtics in the NBA playoffs.
But the former Calhoun School and Alabama standout was with the team throughout the postseason, and on Monday night, Davison saw his teammates defeat the Dallas Mavericks 106-88 to win the franchise’s 18th NBA championship.
Boston’s victory closed out this season’s NBA Finals in five games.
In his second season, Davison was eligible to play for Boston and Maine as a two-way player during the regular season. He played in eight NBA games and had 16 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in 39 minutes of court time.
In 49 games with Maine, Davison averaged 21.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, 8.8 assists and 1.5 steals. He was a third-team selection for the All-NBA G League postseason all-star team.
Davison earned Alabama’s Mr. Basketball Award in 2020 and 2021 while leading the Calhoun School in Letohatchee to the AHSAA Class 2A championship in each season. Davison averaged 33.4 points, 12.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists as a junior and 32.4 points, 10.9 rebounds and 4.7 assists as a senior at Calhoun.
Davison averaged 8.5 points, 4.8 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game in his only season at Alabama.
Boston selected Davison from Alabama with the 53rd choice in the 2022 NBA Draft.
