Mobile man gets 2 life sentences for killing ex-wife’s boyfriend, shooting her on Christmas Eve 2021

A Mobile man was sentenced to two life terms on Wednesday after being convicted of shooting his ex-wife and killing her boyfriend on Christmas Eve three years ago, court records showed.

Murice Sashington, 40, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole by Mobile County Circuit Court Judge S. Wesley Pipes for fatally shooting 40-year-old Quincy Kemp of Prichard in 2021, records showed.

Last month, a Mobile County jury found Sashington guilty of capital murder in Kemp’s slaying and guilty of attempted murder for shooting his ex-wife, Shanda Avery.

According to the Mobile District Attorney’s Office, Sashington broke into Avery’s home and waited to ambush her and Kemp.

When Avery and Kemp arrived, Sashington shot and killed Kemp and also shot and wounded Avery, although she survived.

Pipes sentenced Sashington to life in prison after being convicted of attempted murder for shooting Avery.

Shortly after the Christmas Eve 2021 shootings, Sashington fled the area and remained at large until May 2022, when he was taken into custody in Nevada and extradited back to Mobile. He had been held without bond in Mobile Metro Jail ever since.
