MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. (WHNT) — The Muscle Shoals Police Department says officers found 15-year-old Demarion Richardson shot at the Red Roof Inn early Sunday morning.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting have not been disclosed to the public.
Richardson’s mother, Donshay Beckwith says she’s deeply saddened that her child’s life was cut short.
“That was my baby. He didn’t he didn’t get to go to prom. He didn’t get to graduate,” she said. “It was taken from him.”
Beckwith says her son had big dreams.
“He played basketball. He loves sports, even tried baseball,” she said. “He wanted to pursue football to go pro.”
Richardson was a rising sophomore at Deshler High School in Tuscumbia.
The school issued a statement Monday morning saying it was deeply affected by the loss.
Administrators also acknowledged that Richardson was well-known in his community and by the student body.
“I’m trying to figure out who didn’t know him,” Beckwith said. “I mean he was a peaceful person. He was loving. He was caring, and he would give his last he’s got a good heart.”
As she tries to process the loss of her son, Beckwith says she wants one thing for sure.
“Justice,” she said. “I want justice for my child.”
A sixteen-year-old has been arrested in connection with Richardson’s death. The Muscle Shoals Police Department has formally turned the case over to juvenile authorities.
Still, Beckwith urges anyone with additional information to come forward and talk to detectives.
