MADISON COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — The executive director of a North Alabama nonprofit and former UAH associate professor is facing charges for possessing and distributing child pornography, according to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO).
John Franklin Kvach, 53, was booked into the Madison County Jail on Monday morning for five counts of child pornography possession and one county of disseminating/displaying child pornography.
On Monday morning, MCSO posted that a search warrant was executed at a home at Cove Creek in the Brownsboro community. Officials said the warrant was obtained as part of an ongoing investigation into allegations of child crimes.
As a result of the investigation, MCSO said Kvach was arrested at his home on Cove Creek Drive and charged.
Kvach is listed on the Singing River Trail website as the nonprofit’s executive director. His bio on the website also states that he was formerly an Associate Professor of Southern History at the University of Alabama in Huntsville for 10 years and served as Vice President of the Liberty Learning Foundation.

“Earlier today, the Board of Directors for the Singing River Trail learned of the arrest of its Executive Director, Dr. John Kvach. The alleged behavior is unacceptable and reprehensible. At this time, the Board of Directors does not believe that any of the alleged conduct involved Singing River Trail resources, offices, or sites, but should that change, the Board will direct its remaining team members to fully investigate any such allegation. Moreover, the Singing River Trail Team will cooperate with law enforcement in any way necessary.
As of today, the Board is beginning the process of Dr. Kvach’s separation from the Singing River Trail. As the Board navigates that process, we will begin the hard work of finding a new Executive Director that meets the Board’s high expectations and represents the values of the Singing River Trail. The important work of the Singing River Trail will continue.”

The Alabama Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, comprising members from the MCSO, Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), Huntsville Police Department (HPD), and Homeland Security took part in executing the warrant at Kvach’s home.
According to Jail records, Kvach was released from the Madison County Jail as of 4:17 p.m. Monday on a $100,000 bond.
