A Gulf Shores man faces charges of willful torture and abuse of a child after he was arrested Monday for being physically and verbally abusive toward his three children whose ages range from 2 to 4.
Nicholas Joseph Tomlin, 23, of Gulf Shores was arrested around 8:30 p.m. after police received a call from Mo’s Landing at 18068 State Highway 180, about him allegedly being intoxicated and for being abusive toward his children.
When officers arrived, they found Tomlin attempting to cross the state highway with three small children.
After speaking with Tomlin, he was detained for public intoxication.
Witnesses at the nearby park located on Highway 180 — otherwise known as Fort Morgan Road — were interviewed. Evidence obtained by police indicated that he had picked up one of the children by the hair and clothing then slammed him into a stroller.
Tomlin is being held at the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Correction Center on charges of Willful Torture or Abuse/Mistreatment of a Child, Domestic Violence Third Degree, three counts of Reckless Endangerment, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Public Intoxication.
The Alabama Department of Human Resources-Child Protective Services is assisting with the investigation, and the Gulf Shores Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division is asking for anyone who witnessed the incident to contact 251-968-2431.
