The Seattle Seahawks have signed Birmingham Stallions running back Ricky Person Jr., the NFL team announced on Monday.
Person ran for 297 yards and a league-leading six touchdowns on 93 carries in nine games during the regular season for Birmingham in 2024. He had 102 yards on 13 rushing attempts in the Stallions’ 25-0 victory over the San Antonio Brahmas in the United Football League Championship Game on June 16.
Person helped Birmingham win the USFL championship in 2023. He had only 83 yards and one touchdown on 14 carries in four regular-season games, then ran for 122 yards on 16 carries in the Stallions’ two postseason victories.
Person is the second member of the 2024 Stallions to sign with an NFL team. On Thursday, the Denver Broncos announced the addition of Birmingham defensive end Dondrea Tillman.
The Seahawks had two running backs rush for more than 50 yards last season, and both return for 2024. Kenneth Walker III led Seattle with 905 yards and eight touchdowns on 219 rushing attempts, and Zach Charbonnet ran for 462 yards and one touchdown on 108 carries in 2023.
The Seahawks are on their summer break. Seattle’s rookies report on July 17 for training camp at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center in Renton, Washington. Seattle’s veteran players are scheduled to report on July 23.
Person had a previous NFL opportunity with the Baltimore Ravens, who signed the running back on May 6, 2022, as an undrafted rookie from North Carolina State. Person did not make the Ravens’ regular-season roster.
Terms of Person’s contract with Seattle have not been announced.
