The sarcophagus seems impossibly small; its marble much too cold for a child’s resting place – even the fringed blanket on top is carved from immovable stone. Etched into its side are the words: “Nina, daughter of M. Adelia and John H.E. Craigmiles. Fell asleep October 18, 1871.”
The small coffin of a once-vibrant 7-year-old child resides inside an ornate mausoleum in Cleveland, Tenn., that has become the stuff of legend, one that draws numerous tourists to the city of about 48,000 residents in the Chattanooga Metro Area.
