You’ll soon be able to buy a pirate license plate in Alabama but it’s not what you think
You will soon be able to show your pirate pride with a new Alabama license plate. But before you conjure up ideas of walking the plate and yo, ho, ho, things aren’t quite what they seem.
According to the Alabama Department of Revenue, a new license plate for the Pirate Foundation will be available Aug. 1. The plate is for the P.I.R.A.T.E.(Programs Increasing Resources and Teaching Enhancement) Foundation of Boaz City Schools which provides grants to the north Alabama school system.
The plate costs an additional $50 with the net proceeds going to the Foundation to fund teacher grants, fine arts programs and elementary-level literacy programs. The tag is available to anyone.
The Pirate Foundation plate isn’t the only new one in Alabama.
A plate for the Mizpah Grand Chapter OES became available July 1.
Net proceeds from the $50 costs go the Five Points Charitable Foundation Inc. to provide educational stipends for graduating high school seniors across Alabama. It’s open to all residents of Alabama who support the group’s programs.
