A 62-year-old man was killed in a weekend shooting in Bessemer.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Lee Curtis Tate. He lived in Bessemer.
The shooting happened at 9:45 p.m. Saturday in the 2800 block of Dartmouth Avenue. That location is a business were multiple people were hanging out in the parking lot.
Det. Justin Burmeister said police were dispatched to the location on a report of a person shot. Bessemer Fire and Rescue pronounced Tate dead on the scene at 10:10 p.m.
Burmeister said there were multiple witnesses present during the shooting but many fled after the shooting happened. There was some type of altercation between the victim and an unknown suspect before the fatal shots were fired.
No arrests have been made.
Tate is Bessemer’s sixth homicide this year. In all of Jefferson County there have been 118 homicides, including the five in Bessemer.
