HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — The 2024 North Alabama Walk to Defeat ALS began Sunday morning to help raise $112,500 for a treatment and cure for ALS.
2024 marks the 10th anniversary of the Ice Bucket Challenge, a movement where three young men inspired people around the world to dump ice water on their heads to raise awareness and funds for ALS.

The movement raised over $115 million for the ALS Association, and, because of the Ice Bucket Challenge, there have been newly discovered genes, advances in assistive technology and expanded access to care services.
That’s why North Alabama residents are walking to support those living with ALS and their families while raising critical funds to provide support and services at Crestwood Medical Center.
About $30,000 was raised Sunday and donations are open for another six weeks. To donate, you can visit the ALS Association website.
