Alabama Baseball Roots: 54 MLB All-Star Game players

Tuesday night’s Major League Baseball All-Star Game will be the 14th in the past 15 in which at least one player with Alabama baseball roots has been included among the game’s best.

This season’s game will feature Baltimore Orioles shortstop Gunnar Henderson (Morgan Academy) in the starting lineup and New York Yankees pitcher Clay Holmes (Slocomb) in the bullpen for the American League.

Henderson is the 54th All-Star who played at an Alabama high school or college or reached professional baseball from the state’s industrial leagues or sandlots.

Holmes pitched in the 2022 MLB All-Star Game.
