Alabama virtual school graduate competing in Paris Olympics for Singapore

Two months ago, Levenia Sim was a virtual high school student. Now, she’s headed to compete for Singapore in the Summer Olympics in Paris.

Baldwin County Virtual School this week shared Sim’s accomplishment on Facebook and noted she just graduated in May.

“Congratulations and best wishes as you compete this summer,” the post said.

Sim will swim the 4x100m medley relay for Singapore. She’s part of a quartet that includes her sister, Letitia Sim, and Quah Ting Wen and Quah Jing Wen, who are also sisters.

They are Singapore’s first relay team to qualify for the Olympics after clocking several swimming victories around the world over the past year, the Straits Times reported.

Last September, they won third place at the Hangzhou Asian Games, but their victory was voided after one teammate dived 0.1 second early during the final changeover.

In February, they finished No. 9 with a national record of four minutes and 2.88 seconds in the World Aquatics Championships in Doha, Qatar.

The team traveled to France, Spain and Monaco with other Olympic athletes to France, Spain and Monaco for three weeks of training in May.

The 2024 Summer Olympics start July 26 in Paris. The 4×100 relays take place Aug. 8-9.
