HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — Ticket sales for the ‘Songs and Stories of Dean Dillon’ tribute concert have reached over $1 million, setting a new record at the Von Braun Center.
The October 8 and 9 event features 17 confirmed musicians and additional surprise appearances paying tribute to famed singer and songwriter Dean Dillon.
VBC Executive Director Steve Maples said the concert’s record sale of nearly 5,000 tickets is a historic milestone celebrating Alabama’s musical history and attendance will benefit Huntsville’s local economy.
“We’re trying to make this a statewide event, not just a local event,” he said, “and there is a very, very good chance that this will go down in history as the biggest event in Huntsville, Alabama.”
The VBC is also celebrating its 50th anniversary and Maples said he hopes to continue hosting acclaimed musicians.
“I’m a country music fan and to be part of this, it’s legendary and iconic and I’ll remember it forever, just as many of the folks that come to this show will,” he said. “We’re creating memories and celebrating our 50th anniversary.”

Ticket sales are still open for both concerts. On Tuesday, Oct. 8, Propst Arena is hosting the Dean Dillon and Friends Songwriter Celebration where Dillon will perform with other songwriters. On Wednesday, Oct. 9, over 17 country music stars including George Strait, Vince Gill, and Riley Green will perform a tribute concert.
Maples said the concert will also have a philanthropic impact. A portion of revenue from ticket sales will be used by Concerts 4 a Cause to buy 100 guitars for public schools in Madison County.
