Decatur man accused of setting house on fire

MORGAN COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — A Decatur man is accused of intentionally setting a house on fire Monday.

Court documents show Johnathan Germain was arrested and charged with second-degree arson.

Documents say Germain intentionally poured an “accelerant” on a residence in the 3900 block of Boxwood Lane and set it on fire. The Decatur Police Department (DPD) says a resident called to report that their home was intentionally set on fire.

Documents state that the intentional act by Germain caused “substantial damage to the front of the residence.”

DPD said they were able to identify Germain using a home security system, and patrol officers found him on Whitney Lane. He is currently being held in the Morgan County jail on a bond of $300,000.

Court documents show his bond was increased due to Germain being a “danger to the community” through his drug use and instability.

The conditions of his bond are that he cannot have contact with the victim, the victim’s family or the victim’s property and he will have to wear an ankle monitor.
