
ATHENS, Ala. (WHNT) — The Athens Lions Club Kiddie Carnival has provided generations of fun from the same site since 1957, and it’s returning to bring fun to families for another year.
The carnival, located at 309 E Forrest Street, opens on Thursday, June 20 with an opening ceremony at 6:00 p.m. Rides will open at 6:30 p.m., costing just one 50-cent ticket.
The event will be open Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights from June 20 to July 27 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
According to the Athens Lions Club, the carnival will offer 10 rides for toddlers and young children, bingo games and concession favorites.
The Kiddie Carnival is run by Athens Lions Club members, spouses of club members, the Leo Club, a local high school Sub Deb, Pi Beta sororities, businesses, employees and individual volunteers.
A portion of the money raised from the carnival will be used to fund scholarships awarded to high school seniors who volunteered.
The Athens Lions Club also supports Lions International’s focus on eye care by helping those who need eye exams or glasses. The Lions Club also collects used eyeglasses to be recycled.
