Madison County man indicted on multiple drug charges



MADISON COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — A Madison County man has been indicted by a grand jury on multiple drug charges.

Derrick Lavar Watkins, 41, of Harvest, was arrested in April of 2022 for trafficking a controlled substance and four counts of distribution of controlled substances.

On April 30, 2022, Watkins was found to be in possession of 28 grams or more of methamphetamine, oxycodone, buprenorphine, ecstasy, and marijuana while in Huntsville, Alabama.

According to documents, Watkins knowingly possessed multiple drugs and did attempt to sell, furnish, or give away the substances listed above.

Watkins was indicted by a Madison County grand jury on October 11, 2024.

He previously worked for the Madison County Sheriff’s Office as a Detention Officer for over 15 years until he was arrested for smuggling various drugs into the jail.
