
MADISON COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — Madison County will open voting machines for public testing Wednesday before election day.
Madison County Probate Judge Frank Barger’s office announced that voting machines that will be used in the 2024 General Election will be open for public tests on Wednesday, October 30.
The public tests will begin at 8 a.m. at the Madison County Elections Management Center at 6921 Highway 431 South in Owens Cross Roads.
The test is pursuant to the Alabama Electronic Voting Committee Administrative Code Chapter 307-X-1-.04.
On November 5, voters across the United States will take to the polls for the 2024 general election.
The United States general election will be held on Tuesday, November 5. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Election officials are encouraging voters to get ready, adding that a plan is needed for the day and to expect the possibility of longer lines and wait times at polling stations.
“Check your registration,” Judge Barger said. “Confirm your polling location. Make a plan to vote. Educate yourself about the candidates that are on the ballot.”

Judge Barger shared that Madison County had over 330,000 registered voters as of Friday, Oct. 18. There are 79 polling locations across the county, and one absentee ballot box, making that final count 80.
Important dates to remember:
- Tuesday, October 29: Last day to apply for a mail-in absentee ballot
- Thursday, October 31: Last day to apply for an in-person absentee ballot
- Monday, November 4: Last day to hand deliver absentee ballot
The election is on November 5 and mail-in absentee ballots must also be received by noon.
