BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Weeks after one of Alabama’s oldest private colleges closed its doors for good, a renowned historically Black college has stepped in to acquire its campus.
On June 19, officials at Miles College signed a letter of intent to purchase Birmingham-Southern College’s 192-acre campus, MC director of public relations Mya Jolly confirmed to CBS 42 Monday. No information was released on the offer that was given.
BSC’s property has been a topic of interest among several colleges and universities after it announced that the school would be closing at the end of the semester due to financial issues. Last month, Alabama A&M in Huntsville made a $52 million offer to buy the campus, but BSC officials said there had been no official agreements made.
No officials from BSC could be reached for comment Monday.
