
LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — A North Courtland police officer was arrested Wednesday on domestic violence charges, according to authorities.
According to Lawrence County Jail Records, Mark Anthony Whalen was arrested by the Moulton Police Department at around 9:31 a.m. Wednesday.
A spokesperson for the Moulton Police Department told News 19 that Whalen is charged with third-degree domestic violence – harassment.
North Courtland Police Chief Spencer Butler confirmed that Whalen worked part-time for the department, but after his arrest was brought to their attention, he was placed on leave without pay pending the outcome of his arrest.
Franklin County Jail records show Whalen was booked into that facility at 10:30 a.m.
Sgt. Kyle Palmer with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Whalen was being held for Lawrence County but could not confirm his original charge.
The Moulton Police spokesperson said what led to Whalen’s arrest is still under investigation.
