HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — The University of Alabama in Huntsville is kicking off its first day of alumni weekend with an alumni achievement of awards dinner Thursday night.
During the four-day celebration, UAH will host a lineup of games, ceremonies, and other activities honoring current and former students.
“We’re lucky to have a rich history and be able to enjoy our alumni coming back to campus,” said Kelly Myers, UAH Director of Alumni Relations and Special Events. “Maintaining our relationship is key.”
Beginning Thursday, Sept. 19, the lineup of activities is as follows:
- 9/19 at 5:30 PM: Alumni of Achievement Awards Dinner
- 9/20 (cancelled) Lancer 50th Anniversary Reunion
- 9/21 from 12 to 4 PM: Esports Challenge: Alumni vs. Students
- 9/21 from 2 to 7 PM: Family Fun Day
- 9/21 at 4:30 PM: Athletics Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony
- 9/21 at 8 PM: Charger Tip-off
- 9/22 at 9 AM: See you Soon Breakfast
Registration has closed for the alumni of achievement awards dinner but other activities are still open at UAH’s Alumni Relations website.
UAH is also celebrating its 55th founding anniversary. Myers said the university has been hosting Alumni Weekend for several decades and she’s watched attendance grow over the years, as UAH’s alumni community grows.
“We’ve got amazing alumni, amazing friends of the university,” said Myers. “People want to support the university, and it’s really the relationships and people that make it wonderful.”
Myers said the Charger Tip-off is usually the most popular event during Alumni Weekend but her personal favorite is the Awards Dinner.
“I think just getting to know them better and seeing their amazing accomplishments, I mean, they’re doing things that are changing our world globally,” said Myers.
She said the games and events are a great way for past alumni and current students to connect and learn about each other’s career interests. Faculty and families of alumni are also encouraged to attend.
